The Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas daimio, family: Lycaeninae ) is a small butterfly with vivid orange forewings marked with black spots and pale gray hindwings with red-orange bands.

Its Japanese name beni-shijimi comes from beni=scarlet and shijimi=Lycaenidae family butterflies.

On top of its head, triangular labial palps are attached.
