Ball moss, <i>Tillandsia recurvata</i><br />Summer 2003, Florida


This is an another species in Tillandsia called Ball moss (Tillandsia recurvata). Ball moss stays on tree trunks forming 'balls' unlike Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides), which hangs down from tree branches.
Tillandsia is a member of pinapple family (Bromeliaceae). Like the leaves of pineapple family plants, the basal leaves of Tillandsia share similarity with the pineapple family plants.
